Velveteen Rabbit: The Dylag Sisters’ Arts District Cocktail Bar

Sisters Pamela and Christina Dylag opened the Velveteen Rabbit in February 2013 in the still-emerging Las Vegas Arts District. The Dylags drew the bar’s literary aesthetic and craft cocktail program from world travels, filling the space at 1218 South Main Street with Victorian sofas, vintage chairs, and rotating local art so the room reads more like a neighbor’s living room than a Strip lounge. Twelve-plus years in, the Velveteen Rabbit has been featured by Bon Appétit, the New York Times, and Forbes.

Velveteen Rabbit programming runs craft cocktails, rotating local DJs, and an art-program presence that shifts the visual identity of the bar every few weeks. Christina Dylag has authored a book (“Tiny Little Boxes”) in addition to running the bar, anchoring the operation in the literary frame the name implies.

Velveteen Rabbit in the Las Vegas Valley

The 18b Arts District build-out of the past decade was anchored in part by a small handful of bars and restaurants that opened before the corridor was fully formed; Velveteen Rabbit was one of them. The Dylag sisters’ continuous family ownership since 2013 makes Velveteen Rabbit one of the longest-running founder-operated cocktail bars in the Las Vegas Valley.
