Kari and Richard Garcia's North Las Vegas bakery, open since 2016: mini cupcakes only, hand-size cookies, daily 4- and 6-inch cakes and round custom cakes.
At tsp. baking company the cupcakes come in exactly one size, mini, and the menu says so in capital letters. That is the first thing to know about Kari Garcia's shop on North Decatur Boulevard near the 215. The second is that the flavors change often and lean playful: black tuxedo is chocolate cake with Oreo frosting, pink pony is strawberry on strawberry with glitter, and one mystery flavor each month is free if you can guess it at the counter.

That is how the bakery's own site describes Kari, who first built a following for cupcakes at Retro Bakery before opening tsp. on November 11, 2016. She runs the family business with her husband, Richard, an Air Force veteran; KTNV's Veterans Voice segment profiled the couple. What is in the case
- Cookies about four inches across. The dirty cookie, brown sugar loaded with Oreo pieces, is the shop's most popular. There are vegan options (lime sourpuss, cinnamon crackle) and a flourless peanut butter, and many cookies can be shipped.
- Daily cakes in 4- and 6-inch rounds, such as the Party Animal with circus animal cookies and the best-selling Dirty Cookie Drip. Writing on top is free.
- Custom cakes in round buttercream only, with no sheet or square cakes. Standard designs need a week's notice and tiered cakes 14 days. Any mini cupcake flavor can become a 4-, 6- or 9-inch cake.
- Cake toppers made in-house, with at least seven days' notice.
A couple of house rules help with planning: the shop uses faux flowers rather than fresh ones, and it can't copy trademarked characters, though you can bring a toy to set on top. Local delivery is available by phone with 24 hours' notice.
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; closed Sundays.
