Bunker Dance Center

The studio on West Ann Road opened in 1994 as Bunker Boogie Dance Studio, named for Kathy Bunker's mother, Beverly, a dancer and teacher everyone called Boogie. The name got shorter over the years, but Bunker Dance Center is still a family operation in the northwest valley.

The family at the front

Kathy is owner, president and artistic director. She holds a master's degree in the arts from American University, performed around the world with Brigham Young University's International Folk Dance Company, studied flamenco under Luisa Triana, and trained in the Cecchetti and Vaganova ballet methods as well as tap, jazz, contemporary and musical theater. She still works on choreography, rehearsals and event production.

Her daughter, Kenady Bunker, trained here, danced with BYU's Tap Dance Company and now leads dance operations and the pre-professional Company teams. Her son, Blake, was on the studio's very first Company team, learning competition hip-hop from Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo, and now runs the business side.

More than 40 instructors, educators and administrators work at the studio, and every staff member is vetted and background checked.
