Bungalow Coffee Co.

Coffee Shop, Las Vegas

Listed Researched from public sources.

Ryan and Shannon Matson's roomy Arts District cafe on East Charleston: specialty espresso, breakfast sandwiches, work-friendly booths and coffee catering.

Ryan and Shannon Matson joked about opening a coffee shop on one of their first dates. In 2021 they did it, buying an existing Arts District cafe after sending its owners a message on Instagram. The neighborhood already meant a lot to them. In February 2020 Ryan proposed with a mural by artist Tone Castle, painted on a wall beside Art Square Theatre, and Castle later became one of the cafe's muralists.

A room made for staying

Bungalow sits on East Charleston Boulevard at South Casino Center, and it is big for a coffee shop: roughly 3,000 square feet by the cafe's count, full of natural light, plants and murals. Las Vegas Weekly said it felt more like a greenhouse than a coffeehouse. Longer-than-usual booths leave room to spread out, and many regulars treat it as a second office.

The owners came from outside the coffee trade. Shannon spent about ten years in corporate marketing, and Ryan managed high-end commercial construction projects on the Strip. Before the cafe they built the Social Bungalow, an online business that coaches women starting their own companies.

At the counter

The coffee runs from drip and single-origin espresso to nitro cold brew and pour-overs. Specialty drinks include a rosemary latte, a maple and sea salt Campfire latte, a London fog, and a Cold Fashioned made with cold brew concentrate, bourbon-aged maple and bitters. Almond, oat and coconut milk are on hand.

Chef Joe Zanelli, who opened Greene Street at the Palms, helped design the original food menu. Current plates include:

  • The Deluxe Croissant Sandi: eggs, Swiss, avocado and aioli
  • A waffle sandwich with sausage, egg and maple syrup
  • Salmon lox and avocado toasts
  • Turkey and brie or ham and goat cheese paninis

Coffee for events

The catering side sets up a full espresso bar with trained baristas, plus a latte printer that can put a logo on the foam, for weddings and conventions alike. The cafe itself can be rented for private parties of up to 165 people, and the Bungalow app takes orders ahead.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
