Family-owned brewery and Nevada's only cidery, pouring beer and gluten-free hard cider in an old bank building on Henderson's Water Street.
John Griffith's wife, Kristi, has celiac disease. That is a big reason why Griffith, known to everyone as Griff, made his Henderson brewery a cidery as well: hard cider is gluten-free. Las Vegas Weekly reported in 2026 that Mojave Brewing Company remains the only cidery in Nevada.
From the classroom to the brewhouse
Griff grew up in Michigan. After a stint in the Navy, he was a college student in Kalamazoo working at a coffee shop across the street from Bell's Brewery, and the brewers who came in for coffee taught him to brew. His own path to a brewery began with home brewing in 1992. He and Kristi moved to Las Vegas in 2000, and he taught math and science at two Clark County middle schools while he kept brewing: he joined the SNAFU home brewers club, won medals in home brew contests, became a nationally recognized beer judge and brewed at Joyride Brewing in Colorado to learn a 10-barrel system.
In 2017 the couple decided to go it alone, without partners or investors, and made Mojave a family-owned business. The tasting room opened in 2020 in part of the old Bank of America building on South Water Street, in Henderson's historic Water Street District. Longtime local brewer Andy Kohon took over as head brewer in late 2022, and Griff is still a regular behind the bar.
A visit

Mojave beer and cider also turn up on tap and in cans at restaurants, bars and grocery stores around Southern Nevada. The brewery also runs a founders club for regulars who sign up as members.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 2 to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.
