Going Batty

Learning how a machine makes a stitch is part of the work at Going Batty. The Reno quilt and sewing shop sells supplies and machines while maintaining classes for makers who want to understand the equipment they use.

Owned by Keegan McGhie and Edmira Andrade McGhie, the business has served Reno since 2003. Its current shop is on South Virginia Street, where fabrics, notions and sewing equipment sit alongside its educational program.

From a first project to a long-arm machine

Keegan's published instructor biography describes work with sewing machines, sergers, embroidery systems and long-arm quilting equipment. The teaching subjects include stitch formation, tension and workflow, with an emphasis on understanding why a technique works.

Long-arm instruction reaches into rulers, pantographs and free-motion designs. Those are distinct ways of guiding the quilting process, giving experienced makers topics beyond an introductory sewing lesson.

A shop and a place to learn

The business also schedules retreats, combining time to sew with organized instruction and other quilters. Its current class listings provide the project, instructor and booking information for each session.

Going Batty has announced a Las Vegas expansion planned for later in fall 2026. That planned shop is separate from the currently operating Reno location and should not yet be treated as an open Las Vegas storefront.
