B&C Camera

A broken camera lens helped bring Joe Dumic into the camera business. After damaging a lens on a Hawaii trip in 2009, he visited B&C Camera in Las Vegas for a replacement and learned that owner Edda Brandt was considering retirement. The former banker eventually acquired the store.

A repair-shop beginning

B&C traces its roots to 1971, when Brandt and Council established a camera repair shop near Third Street and Imperial Avenue. Its current operation combines equipment sales with services for photographers and people making video.

Dumic's ownership has also been documented outside the company's own history, including his photography-industry writing and a Checkfront account of the store's rental operation.

Equipment across formats

The catalog includes mirrorless and DSLR cameras, point-and-shoot models, cinema equipment and instant-film cameras. Rangefinder and medium-format categories sit alongside lenses for different systems.

The surrounding equipment is equally specific to image-making: microphones and digital recorders, video monitors and stabilizers, studio lighting, tripod legs and heads, protective cases and camera bags. Film remains represented through 35mm, 120, instant and sheet-film categories.

• Rentals let customers reserve equipment for a particular project.
• Repairs include an online route to check repair status.
• Film developing and photo-lab services handle work after the exposure.
• Classes and events provide a separate calendar for learning.

Those services explain the shop's role beyond a purchase. A photographer might arrive looking for a replacement lens, rent equipment for an assignment, return with film to develop or choose a class from the current schedule.

The business's history began with fixing cameras; its present range follows the larger sequence of choosing equipment, making pictures and producing finished photographs. Sales and service inquiries go directly to the Las Vegas team.
